So, our intrepid adventurers came back, saving the town’s infected by bringing the ingredients needed for the cure. However, everyone still seems to be depressed. Apparently some children have gone missing!

After poking around, they find out the kids had planned to do the whole “stay in a haunted house” dare. Well, our heroes go to check that out, and find signs that the children had been there, but were gone. Indications of a violent struggle leave them worried for the kids’ safety, so they follow the trail back to the ruined monastery. Having cleaned out the upper floor of monsters just days ago, they trailed the captors to their underground lair.

As it turns out, the children have been captured by kobolds and kept in a deserted, underground dwarven stronghold!

Currently, the foursome are prowling the ruined dwarven citadel, fighting off or intimidating kobolds as well as dealing with other nastiness. They have found one of the children so far, as well as a hapless adventurer too wounded from kobold poison to continue on.

Tune in next for the exciting conclusion, as they seek to free the remaining children from kobold bondage!

Just a thought on the pre-PF modules. One of the largest problems matching things up with PF rules is treasure.

For instance, in the module we just finished, one of the treasure items was a “Wand of Light” which cast Light. Well, pre-PF that was a useful level 1 item, for sure. Now, it is practically worthless. Why? Well, Light is now a 0-level, which are free and can be cast over and over without ever tiring or running out, a pretty significant change from 3.5

In the upcoming one I will probably replace items like this with random treasure of the some approximately equal value. ( I ended up just allowing them to sell the wand, even though it should technically have almost zero value )

So this last weekend we wrapped up the free introductory adventure from Paizo. We have been really impressed with the new system, familiar but with all the right tweaks. It’s close enough that you can run a pre-PF adventure from 3.5 with almost no changes. Much better than 4th.

Anyway, well written as always. It took us two sessions, but mainly due to character creation in the first session.

We proceeded with completely random characters. 3d6 in order, two rolls per stat, pick the highest. Roll a d10 for race, with a 10 letting you choose. This gave us the expected bizarro results, with two halflings( bard and sorcerer ), a dwarf (rogue) and a human (monk). This isn’t really a balanced party. The monk helps fill in where a fighter or paladin would normally do. No cleric, but with the new rules the bard has some healing and the so does the sorcerer(!) via the celestial bloodline.

Everyone seemed to like it enough to continue on. I’ve been torn on whether to try out one of the Adventure Path series or continue with the follow up module to the intro. I think I’ve settled on the follow-up.

I don’t exactly have a session write up, but they pretty much followed the expected plot line. The only awkward part of the session was the cauldron battle. It certainly was interesting when the rogue decided to trip the cauldron. “The cauldron is prone!”

I’ll try a little harder to get better write-ups in the future.
